Tyler Waltz
2019 World Champion Bareback Rider
Hometown: Jersey Shore, PA age: 29
Tyler Waltz earned his second consecutive gold buckle at IFR50. He had a commanding lead coming into the Lazy E Arena and continued to dominate the field as the four rounds played out.
“Winning this gold buckle was harder on my body than the first one in 2018. I rode all year with my left knee hurt. I’ll try to give it a little rest after the IFR before starting the 2020 season.”
“I had made winning another world title my goal for the 2019 season. When I set a goal, I like to achieve them,” said Tyler. “I traveled all over the country but my favorite rodeo was Benton, PA in July. It’s basically my hometown rodeo and all of my family is there.”
Waltz has been competing in rodeo his entire life. “I grew up in a rodeo family. I worked every event. I went to the NHSRA finals my junior year and was in every event but the tie-down roping. I blew my knee out in the steer wrestling while I was in college.”
“I’m getting married and don’t plan to travel as hard in 2020. I’m not going to go as hard as I did. I don’t like to go and not try to win. I would like to try to win the world again but we’ll see how it works out.”
“I would give this advice to young bareback riders, keep a clear head and learn from the guys that win.”
